MQM supports Supreme Court verdict

20 Jun, 2012

The ruling clique was seen in the midst of political hot water after a key PPP ally-the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-announced to accept the Supreme Court ruling which disqualifies Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani from holding the office.
"Pakistan People's Party should accept the court decision in the greater interest of country and the democracy," MQM said in a statement on Tuesday, minutes after PPP's central executive committee meeting concluded in Islamabad. "We must avoid confrontation among institutions at all cost," MQM spokesman said.
Sources said MQM chief Altaf Hussain has called an emergency meeting of party's Co-ordination Committee which would be held simultaneously in London and Karachi to review the situation arising from the apex court verdict. Though, Federal Information Minister, Qamar Zaman Qaira was confident while saying that leaders of PPP allies would be consulted Tuesdy night for government's support. However, MQM's decision may leave the ruling party in hot water.
