Young doctors' strike enters 11th day

The strike of young doctors on Thursday entered 11th consecutive day causing poor patients much hardships. Talks between the Punjab government and doctors' representatives were deadlocked a few days ago. Recently, the provincial government warned the striking doctors to end their strike. The provincial government, it is learnt, is considering taking stern action against the protesting doctors.
Senior doctors said that the government should not take stiff action against young doctors because they had a strong organisation across the province. The Outdoor Patient Departments (OPDs) in public hospitals remained closed since June 18. Adviser to the Punjab Chief Minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafiq termed the strike illegal and said that thousands of patients were suffering because of the strike.
Patients and their agreed that strike did not solve any problem and it did not suit their stature and went against the norms of their noble profession, adding that the strike was without any legal and moral justification. Moreover, Lahore General Hospital's administration invited applications for honorary house jobs.
