The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has finally implemented its plan to set up a Road Safety Audit Task Force to carry out a survery to study causes of traffic-related incidents in the city. Risks pointed out by the survey team would then be studied and road safety audit would be gradually digitised.
Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed, while chairing a meeting on the printing of literature on the Task Force, said that surveys of four different corridors had been completed in the first phase of the project. He said that officers from the Transport & Communication Department had carried out the research, adding that Senior Director, Transport and Communication, Muhammad Ather was monitoring their work.
"In the first phase, a survey was conducted on various corridors, including Sharah-e-Pakistan (Liaquatabad No10-Sohrab Goth), Rashid Minhas Road (Shahrae Faisal-Sohrab Goth and 4K Chowrangi No4) and University Road (till Safoora Goth). Meanwhile, Senior Director, Transport Department Muhammad, Ather along with the Director, Road Safety, Aamir Hussain, Consultant Sattar Javed and other officers concerned visited areas where the survey team had identified the risks. Under the directive of the Administrator KMC, the Senior Director directed the survey team to take immediate action for removing risks to minimise traffic accidents.
