Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan called for precautionary measures before the monsoon. No dereliction in this regard would be tolerated, he warned while presiding over a high level meeting at the Governor House here on Thursday regarding the rains.
The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Agha Siraj Durrani, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Raza Haroon, PDMA's Hashim Raza, Commissioner Karachi, Roshan Ali Shaikh, Municipal Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, and Managing Director of Karachi Water and sewerage Board, Misbahuddin Farid. The Governor said that there is SOP with regard to rain emergency and it should be implemented besides adopting precautionary measures.
He also stressed that encroachments from the `Nallahs' should be removed so that there is no obstruction in the flow of water. Dr Ishrat said that there should be effective system of pumping where the rain water may stagnate. He asked the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) to arrange additional generators so that there should be no problem for distribution of water and sanitation.
The Governor stressed that there must be effective co-ordination among various departments so that prompt relief be provided to the people. He said that with regard to relief, funds have been allocated and their judicious distribution be ensured so that money be available with the concerned organisations for emergency steps.
