Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) on Saturday claimed to have arrested some 30 felons including two extortionists, three arms smugglers and a target killer in separate raids at various parts of the metropolis. According to police, two alleged extortionists were nabbed when they arrived to collect ransom from a private company employee near Millat Garden located in Saudabad, Malir.
They said the extortionists, who sent a ransom slip of Rs 20 million with a bullet, threatened for dire consequence in case of refusal. On being informed by the Admin In charge of the company namely Ahmad Mehmood, the police party took action and detained two alleged extortionists namely Shezor and Haider Ali with weapons. They said the police had also recovered two pistols, two cell phones and several rounds from them.
A prime accused in the murder of ASI Safeer Butt was arrested in the limits of Brigade police station. Police said the detained person, who was identified as Muhammad Rehan alias Aamir, was drug-peddlers and hailed from KPK. Moreover, the accused person during initial course of investigation confessed to have murdered ASI Safeer with the help of his two other accomplices namely Zakir and Shair Alam. Further investigation was underway.
A ringleader of street criminals was taken into custody near Continental Bakery when he along with other accomplices was busy in looting valuables from passers-by. They said the detained person, who was identified as Ijaz Ali, was involved in several heinous crimes. Some 23 suspects were detained by Rangers during search operation at Art Chowk, Lyari. The sources said the raid was also conducted at the den of Umar Khachi but remained fruitless and added that the detained suspects including some Lyari gangsters were shifted to unknown place for further interrogation.
Similarly, Anti Extremist Cell (AEC) of CID of the Crime Investigation Department also claimed to have nabbed three members of one of the inter-provincial groups of arms smugglers. The arrests were disclosed by SSP Chaudhry Aslam at a press conference held at AEC office in Garden Police Headquarter. The AEC officials had recovered 10 hand grenades, five Kalashnikovs, 10 repeaters, 10 TT pistols, 500 ammunitions, 40kgs of hashish and a snatched car from the suspects, who were identified as Mohammad Rafiq, Ashraf and Naveed. SSP Chaudhry Aslam said the accused persons, who belonged to one of the inter-provincial groups of arms smugglers, were arrested on secret information near Hub River, Maripur. Further investigation was underway.
