Power shortfall hovers around 5,000 megawatts

Power shortfall hovered around 5,000MW for second consecutive day leading to 12 to 18 hours load shedding in urban and rural areas respectively. The critics have lamented that personal interest of prime minister and government claims proved futile and power shortfall remained to the vicinity of 5,000MW. Power generation was recorded at 12,000MW against a demand of 17,000MW. Power generation through hydel, thermal and IPPs remained 45,00MW, 15,00MW and 6,000MW respectively.
Meanwhile, power supply to KESC was yet 7,00MW.
