The Judicial Commission of Pakistan approved four names of judges for appointment in the Peshawar High Court on Saturday. The commission's meeting was held at the Supreme Court Building under Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
According to the sources, the Commission members gave approval for the appointment of Asadullah Khan Chamkani, Ms Irshad Qaisar, Ruhul Amin and Shah Jahan Akhundzada. Ms Irshad Qaisar and Shah Jahan Akhundzada have been performing as district judges of the Peshawar High Court whereas Asadullah Khan Chamkani as top legal officer of the province and Ruhul Amin has practiced as a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The sources said that nine names were under consideration. Besides, the Commission extended period of four additional judges of the Peshawar High Court for one year, including Khalid Mehmood, Nisar Hussain Khan, Waqar Ahmed Seith and Qaiser Rashid. According to the rules the nominations would be forwarded to the parliamentary committee on appointment of judges by the Judicial Commission after which notification would be issued by the President Asif Ali Zardari.
