Ministry of Industries (MoI) has prepared Ramazan relief package of Rs 2.532 billion. According to which, prices of dozens of essential items will be reduced from 5-15 percent, well informed sources told Business Recorder. It will be implemented through Utility Stores Corporation (USC).
The Ramazan package 2011 was announced with the approval of the ECC as per its decision on June 30, 2011, providing a subsidy of Rs 2064 million. However, dues amounting to Rs 2246 million are still payable by the Finance Division for the year 2010 and 2011. The sources said USC at present is operating 5700 Utility Stores and 70 percent of these stores are located in the rural areas.
The launching of Ramazan relief package through expanded network to USC will ensure the provision of relief to low income people at their doorstep in far-flung areas. The effective date of Ramazan relief package is proposed to be 15th July, 2012, as Ramazan is likely to commence on 20th July, 2012.
