Coronavirus cases, related deaths start witnessing declining trend in Punjab

LAHORE: The number of fresh coronavirus cases and related deaths has started witnessing a declining trend in Punjab, as 1,204 new cases were reported in the province in the last 24 hours as compared to 1,523 cases earlier, while Covid-19 claimed 28 lives in this period as compared to 60 deaths previously.

With 28 more deaths in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 death toll across the province has reached 1,435. As per the data made available to Business Recorder, 1,204 fresh corona cases were reported taking the tally of total number of positive cases to 66,943. Out of the 1,204 confirmed positive cases, 22 were in a critical condition.

Lahore, where some areas are under the smart lockdown, is the worst-hit city with 34,282 corona positive cases and 556 deaths so far. Rawalpindi is the second most-affected district in the province with 5,485 positive cases and 271 deaths so far.

During the last 24 hours, 9,598 corona tests were conducted across the province. As per the contact tracing analysis, about 1,690 contacts of the coronavirus patients were traced across the province, and 1,018 of them were tested, but only five tested positive during the last 24 hours.

So far, 136,604 contacts had been traced, out of whom 7,061 tested positive. 1,087 healthcare workers have tested positive so far. As per data from 46 teaching hospitals of Punjab, over 5,130 patients have recovered, with 236 patients recovering in the last 24 hours.
