KARACHI: On Thursday, Pakistan Rupee broke its downward trend and gained value in both interbank and open markets against USD as well as against other major currencies in open market.
Against Euro, PKR gained 2 rupees for both and selling over Wednesday's rates closing at 186 and 188 respectively. Against UAE Dirham, PKR remained unchanged for buying and gained 10 paisas for selling closing at 45.10 and 45.30 respectively. Against Saudi Riyal, PKR gained 10 paisas for buying and 15 paisas for selling closing at 44 and 44.25 respectively. Amid lack of buyers' in the market, the greenback could not sustain due to selling pressure and ended lower for buying and selling at Rs 167.40 and Rs 168.20 against the overnight closing trend of Rs 167.50 and Rs 168.50 respectively, local currency dealers said. Likewise, the national currency also followed suit in relation to the pound sterling that was bought and sold at Rs 205.50 and Rs 206.20 against the Wednesday's closing rate of Rs 207.30 and Rs 209.00 respectively, they added. The dollar opened at Rs 167.50 (buying) and Rs 167.60 (selling) against last rate of Rs 168.50 (buying) and Rs 168.60 (selling). It closed at Rs 167.50 (buying) and Rs 167.60 (selling). The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold were Rs 110,800 (selling) and Rs 110.500 (selling) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
