LAHORE: The novel coronavirus is spreading unabated across the province of Punjab, particularly in Lahore. Despite smart lockdown in different districts, a record 82 deaths were reported during the last 24 hours taking the tally to 1602 on Thursday.
As many as 1,655 fresh cases were reported across the province in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the province to 71,191. Out of total fresh cases, 1566 patients are stable while 21 are in a critical condition.
As per data made available to Business Recorder, out of total 71,191 positive cases, as many as 36,689 cases were reported in Lahore with 645 deaths so far followed by Rawalpindi with 5714 cases and 287 deaths, and Faisalabad reported 4687 cases with 151 deaths so far.
Up to 453,070 tests of coronavirus have so far been conducted across the province with 7,731 tests conducted during the last 24 hours.
In different hospitals in Lahore, around 800 coronavirus patients are under treatment out of whom about 130 are on ventilators, sources claimed. Health professionals have expressed concern over surge in deaths due to the virus and called for adopting stringent measures to check spread of coronavirus.
Unfortunately, they said corona is out of control and the main reason is that people did not take corona seriously but now the time has come that all sections should unite against this virus.
