LETTER: According to the preliminary report into the plane crash which killed 97 people in Karachi last month, it was because of human error by the pilots, who were discussing the coronavirus crisis during the landing. It is quite unbelievable that they were discussing the pandemic, as they attempted to land the Airbus A320 and had disengaged the craft's autopilot, shifting their focus from their work. In addition to them, air traffic controllers didn't follow the standard rules.
PIA has been suffering from a sinking reputation due to a variety of factors for the past several decades. How strange however it is that the aviation minister is still ruling out the possibility of privatisation of this white elephant in his Wednesday's press conference.
This report presents a sardonic comment on our pilots' and air traffic controllers' approach to their work. This report, however, preliminary, is sufficient enough to lower our heads in shame.
