Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited on Friday the northern Himalayan region of Ladakh where a deadly clash between Chinese and Indian soldiers took place.

The PM was accompanied by chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat and chief of the army, General Manoj Mukund Naravane. On his visit, he met troops at a base in Ladakh’s Nimu area, international media reported.

Addressing the soldiers, he paid tribute to the Indian soldiers who died during the clash in Galwan Valley. He said the bravery shown by the soldiers is a message that has gone to the world about India’s strength.

"Age of expansionism is over; this is the age of development. History is witness that expansionist forces have either lost or were forced to turn back," Modi said.

On June 15, 20 Indian soldiers were killed and at least 76 were injured during a violent face-off with the Chinese soldiers in Galwan Valley.
