LETTER: Yesterday's rains in Karachi have brought about a pleasant change in protracted harsh weather that has been traumatizing its people for the past many weeks or months. But rains have thrown up, like ever, a massive challenge for our civic bodies to deal with the situation. City's main thoroughfares were found to be inundated with rainwater, causing massive traffic jams. It is however quite disturbing that there were hardly any preparations although the MET office had already made forecast about the advent rainy season well in time. That in no time has the first spell of rains exposed the weaknesses or vulnerabilities of our civic infrastructure is a fact. The relevant authorities must not lose sight of the fact that the rainy season is taking place in the midst of coronavirus epidemic. Hence the need for taking all the necessary steps that are required towards framing and implementing a concrete plan on a war footing.
