Punjab government to strictly contain elements involved in sectarianism

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to strictly contain the elements involved in sectarianism besides rigorously monitoring of the entry and exit points of the province.

A meeting that was held to review law and order situation in the province with Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar in the chair also decided that the ban on collection of funds or donations by banned organizations and their facilitators would be strictly implemented. The Addition Chief Secretary (Home) briefed the meeting about the overall law and order situation in the province.

The Chief Minister directed the participants to take every possible step for protection of life and property of the people and said legal action must be initiated against the violators. He said action would be initiated against the criminals under the policy of showing zero tolerance and coordination between federal and provincial line departments should be made more effective. Meanwhile, every possible step will also be taken against the elements involved in spreading hate material on social media sites, he added.

The Chief Minister further directed to take indiscriminate action against the elements involved in sectarianism. He said the NGOs' audit had been completed and the Punjab Charity Commission had been constituted and a portal has been developed for online registration. The strategic board will be activated in the Home Department, he added. The meeting was informed that no sectarian incident had occurred in Punjab from February 2017 till date. Law Minister Raja Basharat, Chief Secretary, IG Police and high officials attended the meeting.
