KARACHI: Sindh Finance Department has allocated Rs.200 million for bar associations of province in the budget 2020-21.
This was disclosed in a reply of Provincial Law Department, furnished with Sindh High Court (SHC) in response to the petitions pertaining to financial assistance to lawyers who have been affected by Covid-19.
According to the reply of Law Department, a mechanism should be devised to give financial assistance to the deserving lawyers. It stated that Sindh High Court Bar Association has already constituted a committee in this regard.
Sindh High Court Bar Association, Sindh Bar Council and some lawyers filed the petitions, seeking financial assistance for lawyers affected by Covid19.
Meanwhile, a division bench of SHC headed by Justice Khadim Hussain Sheikh approved a petition for hearing against the unannounced loadshedding in Karachi.
According to the petition, K-Electric (KE) is resorting to unannounced loadshedding in the city with some areas experiencing 10 to 12-hour long power outages in the city.
The petitioner requested the court to order KE to stop unannounced loadshedding and direct Nepra to take action against power utility for its "negligence and incompetence".
