ISLAMABAD: The standoff between former Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz and the administrator of Jamia Fareedia located in Sector E-7 ended on Thursday after Maulana Aziz left the establishment unconditionally.
According to details, Maulana Aziz and his wife Umme Hasaan occupied the administration office of Jamia Fareedia, a seminary, on Monday night.
Aziz removed seminary's principal, Maulana Abdul Ghaffar, and led morning prayers there.
Tension between the two parties had continued for the last two days, each of which claimed ownership and desired full control over the seminary.
A senior official of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration told Business Recorder that following efforts of the district administration, Maulana Aziz left the seminary unconditionally, and moved to Jamia Hafsa along with his family.
Following tension between the two parties at the seminary, the special branch collected information and conveyed to senior police officers to make arrangements to prevent violence between the two parties.
According to the police, seminary's administrator, Maulana Abdul Ghaffar, has 500 students and 90 other individuals including teachers with him, while Maulana Aziz has 200 students.
In the wake of information, heavy contingent of police personnel including personnel from the Counter Terrorism Force and the Anti-Riot Unit, have been stationed around the seminary.
