KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 145,799 tonnes of cargo comprising 99,450 tonnes of import cargo and 46,349 tonnes of export cargo including 5,957 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday.
The total import cargos of 99,450 tonnes comprised of 32,879 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,399 tonnes of general cargo; 11,137 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 51,035 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargos of 46,349 tonnes comprised of 29,244 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,880 tonnes of general cargo and 14,225 tonnes of bulk cargo.
As many as 5,957 containers comprising of 2,404 containers of import and 3,553 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 606 of 20's and 864 of 40's loaded while 50 of 20's and 10 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 814 of 20's and 280 of 40's loaded containers while 291 of 20's and 944 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were three ships namely Xin Qing Dao, Lime Galaxy and Champion Timur carrying containers, chemical and mogas respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were four vessel carrying containers and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths.
