PESHAWAR: Prices of essential food commodities including vegetable, pulses, sugar, flour fruits, cooking oil/ghee have risen sharply in the retail market, according to a survey conducted here by Business Recorder on Sunday.
As Eidul Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims is approaching fast; the survey witnessed a noticeable increase in prices of tomato, ginger and garlic, which are the most use items during the Eid.
For instance, price of tomato has gone up at Rs100-120 per kg which was selling at Rs30 per kg a few days back. Similarly, the ginger price has also increased from Rs400 to Rs450 per kg. Likewise, it added garlic is being sold at Rs300-330 per kg which was selling at Rs200-250 per kg in the previous week.
A considerable increase in price of red potato was witnessed in local market as the commodity is being sold at Rs80-100 per kg against the price of Rs40-50 per kg in the last week.
It further noticed that peas are being sold at Rs250 per kg, arvi was available at Rs120 per kg, cauliflower is being sold at Rs80-100 per kg against the price of Rs50 per kg in the previous week.
Capsicum is priced at Rs100-120 per kg, while ladyfinger is being sold at Rs120-130 per kg. Cucumber is being sold at Rs60-70 per kg. Lemon was available at Rs160 per kg, onion at Rs70-80 per kg.
Cabbage was available at Rs60 per kg, bringle is being sold at Rs80 per kg. Green chili is being sold at Rs120 per kg against the price of Rs150 per kg in the previous week.
Apple, long and round gourds are being sold within range of Rs70-80 and Rs90 per kg. bringle was available at Rs60 per kg. Turnip is being sold at Rs40-50 per kg.
The survey witnessed the prices of pulses and food grains remained high-side in the retail market. For instance, good quality rice (sela) was available at Rs160 per kg. tota rice is being sold at Rs70-80 per kg. Price of red bean is being sold at Rs220-250 per kg, dal mash at Rs260-270 per kg, dhoti dal at Rs280-290 per kg in the local market.
Big-size white chana is being sold at Rs180-200 per kg against the price of Rs160 per kg, while white lobiya was available within range of Rs160-170 and Rs180 per kg. Dal chana is being sold at Rs160-170 per kg.
Dal chilka (green) was available at Rs240-250 per kg, while dal chilka (black) was being sold at Rs270-280 per kg in the retail market. Moong is being sold at Rs200 per kilogarmme. Malka masoor was available at Rs160 per kg.
