AKF to launch mega project for orphans across country

AL-Khidmat Foundation (AKF) Pakistan is going to launch a mega project for orphans, under which the financial support will be provided to over 10,000 children across the Pakistan. "Al-Khidmat Foundation has started "Orphan Care Program" with the collaboration of foreign and local donors, as some 4.2 million orphans under 17 years old would get basic needs like food, education, training and living places", said Dr Hafeez-ur Rehman President Foundation, while talking to Business Recorder.
There are two different projects under this program, firstly financial support and secondly setup of Aghosh Centers (orphanages), he added. He said that orphans are unable to play a positive role in the society because of unavailability of proper education and training, therefore Al-Khidmat has dedicated this year for orphans.
In this purpose, a comprehensive program has been designed, where over 10,000 orphans will be provided financial assistance. "Estimated Rs 2500 per month and Rs 30,000 per year financial assistance will be provided to orphans across the Pakistan including Azad Kashmeer, Gilgit, Baltistan and Fata," he mentioned.
In addition, AL-Khidmat Foundation is establishing four Aghosh Centers where all necessary facilities like residence, educational and health will be provided at free of cost. These centers will be setup at Attock, Murree, Hub and Thar, he informed. "After the earthquake, an Aghosh center was setup at Attock, where some 210 orphans are getting all necessary facilities, now we intend to establish a mega and state of the art orphanage near Murree with a cost of Rs 510 million. This center will have school, college, shopping area, Islamic Center, Masjid and Medical Center and will provide boarding and lodging to 400 children."
Some 5.6 acre land has already acquired near Murree Express Way and construction is likely to start soon as design has already finalised and funding of Rs 300 million has also arranged, Hafeez said. Aghosh Hub, some 30 kilometer from Karachi is being established at 4 acre land in Balochistan for 300 orphans.
While, Aghosh Thar construction has already initiated two week back and there over 100 orphans will be provided residence and other facilities, he added. With support of Qatar Charity, Al-Khidmat has distributed Rs 1.8 million among orphans of Attock to support them for education. While, some 0.6 million has been distributed among 80 students of Islamabad as scholarship, President Al-Khidmat informed.
