The government filed on Wednesday a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the appointment of a lawyer for Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.
The petition was filed by the Federal Ministry of Law and Justice, local media reported. The ministry sought a lawyer for Jadhav so that he can file a review petition for his death sentence.
The petition said that Jadhav refused to file a review petition or an application to reconsider the death sentence, and India has also refused. It stated that the government has now taken the decision in national interest, so that Pakistan can comply with the International Court of Justice’s order.
Pakistan again offers India consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav
The Advocate General Branch of General Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence has been made parties in the petition.
Last week, Pakistan granted India two consular access to Jadhav. However, during one access, the Indian officials left without talking to him. The next day, Pakistan again offered its neighbor access. The other side is yet to respond.
