KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 224,380 tonnes of cargo comprising 164,010 tonnes of import cargo and 60,370 tonnes of export cargo including 9,603 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.
The total import cargos of 164,010 tonnes comprised of 90,830 tonnes of containerised cargo; 8,960 tonnes of general cargo; 5,720 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 58,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargos of 60,370 tonnes comprised of 35,043 tonnes of containerised cargo and 25,327 tonnes of bulk cargo.
As many as 9,603 containers comprising of 6,377 containers of import and 3,226 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,805 of 20's and 2,078 of 40's loaded while 186 of 20's and 115 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,122 of 20's and 711 of 40's loaded containers while 148 of 20's and 267 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely Mayssan, Cape Marin, Star Centaurus, Western Maple and PAC Antars carrying containers, DAP and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were six vessels carrying containers, oil tanker, cement and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 177,074 tonnes comprising of 142,399 tonnes of import cargo and 34,675 tonnes of export cargo including 3,175 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The total import cargo of 142,399 tonnes includes 20,889 tonnes of coal; 65,644 tonnes of LNG; 9,443 tonnes of furnace oil; 11,000 tonnes of palm oil; 5,215 tonnes of soyabean; 3,920 tonnes of palm kernel; 638 tonnes of LPG and 25,650 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 34,675 tonnes includes 34,675 tonnes of containerised cargo.
As many as 3,175 containers comprising of 1,350 containers import and 1,825 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
There were four ships namely Strange Attractor, Alexandra, Gas Athena and Al Marrouna carrying coal, soyabean, LPG and LNG respectively sail out to sea on Wednesday morning, while two more ships namely Le Havre and Sabrina-1 carrying containers and coal respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of ten ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, soyabean, LPG, LNG, palm kernel and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
As many as fifteen vessels viz. MSC Heidi, Le Li, Da Kang, Chayanee Naree, IVS Windsor, Green Witch Eagle, Energy Glory, White Fin, Tiger Winter, Tomson Gas, Gas Amazon, Amber, Al-Soor-II, Gulf Horizon and UACC March carrying containers, general cargo, steel coil, coal, soyabean, cement, chemical, LPG, gasoline, gas oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
There were six ships viz. MOL Globe, MSC Heidi, IVS Windsor, Green Witch Eagle, Energy Glory and Tiger Winter carrying containers, coal, soyabean and chemical respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Grain & Fertilizer Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Wednesday.
There are two ships namely Athenian and Maersk Brooklyn carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday while another ship namely CMA CGM Mollere carrying containers due to arrive on Friday.
There are three ships namely Safmarine Ngami, Diyala and Gwon carrying containers and project cargo respectively due to arrive on Saturday.
