ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has termed the withdrawal of a government's "faulty" notification with regards to the National Finance Commission (NFC) as a "victory" of its stance on guarding provincial rights.
Talking to reporters along with MNA Moshin Shahnawaz Ranjha, the PML-N central leader Khurram Dastgir Khan maintained that it was the PML-N's victory that the petition filed by the party forced the government to withdraw their notification of the formation of the NFC commission, "which was in violation of the constitution of Pakistan".
"PML-N is the guardian of the rights of the provinces, which is why it forced the PTI government to withdraw the notification of the NFC commission, which was an attack on financial rights of the federating units and also in violation of the Constitution," he said. He said that a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) presided over by Justice Amir Farooq disposed of his petition after Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan informed the court that the government had issued a new notification regarding the NFC's formation.
He said that the party was in the process of evaluating and assessing the new notification and would share its take on it soon. He said that the PMLN- had always stood for the rights of the federating units and any attempt at usurping those rights to centralise funds meant for provinces would be opposed with full force.
Speaking on the occasion, Moshin Shahnawaz Ranjha alleged that the PTI government had been violating the Constitution ever since it came into power.
He said the same was witnessed during the process of appointment of members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and "had to face embarrassment similar to that of today".
He called upon the PTI government to stop trying to "circumvent" the Constitution of Pakistan, and to stop attacking rights of the federating units.
