KARACHI: Prime Minister's Adviser on Commerce and Trade, Abdul Razak Dawood said elections of trade bodies will be held on time as the Trade Bodies Ordinance provides one year tenure for the office bearers.
He said there is no consideration of extending tenure of trade bodies' office bearers and even the law doesn't allow such proposal.
Talking to a delegation led by United Business Group (UBG) patron in chief and former chief executive of Trade Development of Pakistan (TDAB) S M Muneer. Secretary Commerce Salih Farooqui, former presidents of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Zubair Tufail, Abdul Rauf Alam, Khalid Tawab , Sohail Altaf, Zafar Bakhtayari and Malik Sohail Hussain were also present on the occasion.
Dawood mentioned that some other trade bodies have brought the idea to extend the term of their office for one more year in the backdrop of Covid-19 but it was rejected because there is not any provision in the related laws.
According to UBG, S M Muneer applauded the measure to curb coronavirus taken bay PM Imran Khan and his team.
S.M Muneer mentioned that as Chief Executive of TDAP he offered his services to the nation voluntarily and didn't received a penny in term of the salary or other benefits titled to the office " Without any office , and I no need it either, I am ready to play my role for the expansion of country's exports," he added.
He offered to give lectures to TDAP official to explore the post-corona opportunities of trade and exports. The advisor appreciated the idea.
