Pakistan has welcomed the three-day ceasefire announcement by the Taliban on the occasion of the Eid ul Azha throughout Afghanistan.
In a press release on Thursday, Foreign Office (FO) said that Pakistan also welcomes the reciprocal announcement by the Government of Afghanistan. The statement further said that Pakistan believes this a positive development 'towards advancing the goal of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan'.
Pakistan also hopes that further steps will be taken to implement the US-Taliban Peace Agreement leading to Intra-Afghan negotiations, FO said.
"Pakistan, on its part, remains committed to a peaceful, stable, democratic, prosperous and united Afghanistan, at peace with itself and with its neighbours," the statement concluded.
Earlier in the week, Taliban announced that they will observe a three-day ceasefire for Eid ul Azha starting Friday.
βIn order for our people to spend the three days of Eid in confidence and happiness, all fighters are instructed not to carry out any operations,β Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted.
