ISLAMABAD: Justice Qazi Faez Isa's wife Sarina Isa levelled serious allegations against the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), saying its officers have lost credibility and ability to act independently and are acting on instructions.
In a statement, Sarina Isa stated; "Let the public form their own opinion, if Imran Khan's government doesn't censor this statement as they did with my last one." She wrote; "I one again personally delivered to Zulfiqar Ahmed, Commissioners FBR, my letter of 21st July 2020 in reply to his rejoinder. I reproduced 12 queries which I had earlier raided in my letter of 9th July, 2020. I am still waiting for the answers.
I had also requested the copies of my tax declaration, which I do not have as the gentleman I used to file my tax returns through Rehan Hasan Naqvi has passed away. Not providing copies of my own returns is troubling because FBR is referring to them and to returns which they say I filed when I had stopped working and had no taxable income, which is very alarming and suggests manufacturing.
"I had also informed FBR that I had filed a review petition in the Supreme Court on 20th July and made serious allegations against certain officers of FBR and members of Imran Khan's government (Mohammad Asfaq Ahmed, Zulfiqar Ahmed, Zia Ahmed Butt, Mirza Shahzad Akbar, Manzoor Ahmed Kayani, Farogh Naseem). These allegations comprise of 18 paragraphs, all of which I supported with FBR's and government's own documents.
There has been no response. "I had also pointed out the obvious disparity in language between the earlier notice and the rejoinder, both under Zulfiqar Ahmed's signature which (as an English teacher of many years) I said were not written by the same person. Again, no explanation is offered.
"I had also pointed out how mockery of the word 'Confidential' was made when an open envelop and its 'confidential' contents on full display were pasted on the gate of my husband's official residence.
I had in writing informed Zulfiqar Ahmed that I will have no option but to release my letter of 21st July so that the people could judge for themselves. But I still waited, expecting to be given copies of the returns I am said to have filed, and some reasonable explanation about my concerns, but none has come after a week's passage.
"I am now left with no doubt that FBR officers have lost their credibility and ability to act independently as clearly they are acting on instructions. Let the public from their own opinion, if Imran Khan's government doesn't censor this statement and attached letter as they did my last one," her statement concludes.
