LAHORE: An accountability court issued warrants of former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in reference relating to a property transaction under which 54 kanal land was transferred to Jang/Geo media group editor-in-chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman 34 years ago.
The court also extended the remand of Mir Shakil till December 20. Police however did not produce Mir Shakil before the court due to Corona epidemic.
Nawaz Sharif is however in London following a permission given by courts for medical treatment.
In reference against Mir Shakil, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former director general of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Humayon Faiz Rasool and former director of land development department of the LDA Mian Bashir Ahmad were also the accused.
The reference filed under section 18 (g) read with section 24 (b) of National Accountability Ordinance 1999 accused Mir Shakil of illegally obtaining exemption of 54 plots each measuring one-kanal situated in Johar Town.
It alleged that the allotment of the land had been in connivance with then chief minister Nawaz Sharif against the exemption policy. It said the suspects caused a loss of Rs143.53 million to national exchequer through allotment of the land in violation of exemption policy.
