UNGA president-elect calls on Shah Mahmood Qureshi

  • The FM will have wide-ranging talks on peace and security and human rights with Volkan Bozkir.

President-elect of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Volkan Bozkir called on Monday Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the Foreign Office (FO).

Qureshi welcomed the visiting dignitary who also planted a sapling at the office under the plantation drive. According to a statement by the FO, Both the leaders will have wide-ranging talks on issues relating to the three main pillars of the United Nations’ work, that is peace and security, development and human rights.

Bozkir was scheduled to visit Pakistan last month, but had postponed his visit due to 'some technical flight problems'. The Turkish diplomat was elected president of the 75th session of the UNGA in June.

FO statement said Bozkir's visit to Pakistan is an important opportunity to 'inter alia highlight Pakistan’s strong and substantive contributions to the United Nations efforts in the promotion and maintenance of international peace and security, especially through our contribution to the UN Peacekeeping Operations around the world'.
