Jinnah's speech of 11 Aug 1947: Punjab PA passes resolution for making part of curriculum

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Monday passed a unanimous resolution for making Quaid-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah speech in the first legislative assembly part of the curriculum.

The resolution was presented by PML-N MPA Khalil Tahir Sindhu. Speaking on the floor of the House, Sindhu demanded that August 11, 1947 speech of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah should be part of the curriculum on every level in Punjab.

Earlier, the session started one hour fifteen minutes late under the chair of panel chairmen Mian Shafee Muhammad.

Pakistan People's Party Parliamentary leader Syed Hassan Murtaza while speaking on the floor of the House raised the issue of weary condition of Punjab rest houses.

Most of the rest houses in Punjab have been destroyed. The doors of valuable property and other belongings of the rest houses worth billions of rupees have been taken away by the people.

He also said property of worth crores of rupees also being cultivated. Who is doing the farming? Who is leasing the land? It is not known.

Meanwhile, hot words were exchanged between Punjab Irrigation Minister Sardar Mohsin Laghari and PTI MPA Chaudhry Masood on giving the answer in English. Masood said minister wants to prove by giving answer in English that he is educated and others are less educated. He also alleged that minister was involved in saving the people who were involved in corruption. He announced that he will raise the matter before Prime Minister Imran Khan.

While responding to the questions in the House, the Irrigation Minister Mohsin Laghari admitted that rest houses were in bad conditions but he said our priority is the management of the canals, not running the rest houses.

Mohsin Laghari also admitted that influential people were involved in stealing canal water. The government has decided to take strict actions against those who were involved in stealing water. He also announced to give land on lease around canals.
