ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) strongly condemned the gruesome murder of Muhammad Hayat Mirza, a student of Karachi University, killed by a soldier of the Frontier Corps (FC) in Turbat.
The PBC Vice-Chairman, Abid Saqi, in a statement on Wednesday, said Hayat Mirza was shot eight times by the FC soldier, in Absar area of Turbat, Balochistan, which "is the height of lawlessness". He said the murderer soldier of a State institution, who committed the heinous crime in presence of several witnesses including family members of the victim, remained at large for a couple of days before his belated arrest. "Unfortunately, this is not the first incident of its kind as in the past as well, there were number of incidents of missing persons and target killings of innocent citizens of Balochistan, which reminds of the mind-set and acts of the rulers of colonial era."
The PBC vice-chief said it was imperative that the State institutions should come forward to check and control such accesses and abuse of authority by their officials, for restoring confidence and faith of the people of Balochistan. The State institutions are duty bound under the Constitution and law, to provide safety and security to the people, he added.
