(Karachi) Mobile phone services in the metropolis have been badly affected due to power breakdown after heavy monsoon downpour, media reported on Friday.

As per details, different telecom services providers are facing outages as several feeders of the K-electric tripped after rains played havoc in the city. Almost 60 percent of the city was without electricity rendering many telecom towers out of service.

Besides, generators also ceased to function as there is no fuel to power them. Several towers and their switch rooms were also damaged.

Some 650 feeders of K-electric tripped while various transformers developed faults after Karachi received more than 300 millimeters of rainfall.

On August 27, the city witnessed a heavy monsoon rainfall, throwing normal life out of gear. The city administration miserably failed to drain out water from the streets resulting in chaotic situation. Several houses were flooded with rainwater in different areas while people waded through chest-deep water in the streets. There was water-logging not only in the low-lying vicinities but also in posh localities.

Karachi received more than 300 millimeters of rainfall during the 24-hour period bringing city life to a standstill. The rain again exposed the claims made by the district administration about making sufficient arrangement for preventing water-logging.
