The Wasa is adding three more water supply sources for augmentation of potable drinking water to Faisalabad citizens from present 85 million gallons daily to 115 million gallons per day, said Syed Zahid Aziz, Wasa Managing Director, while talking to this correspondent here on Wednesday.
He said that water supply to Faisalabad from tube-wells field area (Jica project) was 56 million gallons a day while eight million gallons water was being supplied from the tube-wells along Rakh Canal and one million gallons from Millat town water works.
Zahid Aziz further said that the Wasa was carrying work on three ongoing water supply projects which included 15 million gallons of the French Government, five million gallons from tube-wells along Rakh branch and 10 million gallons per day from Jhan Khanuana project.
He disclosed that a huge amount would be spent for augmentation of one million gallons water supply per day to Faisalabad, and said the Wasa had also started the 'Tanker Service' for water supply in a number of local towns including Rahim town, Shahbaz Farden, Jail road, Sindhu town, Allama Iqbal Colonly, Waris Pura, Fairoze Shah and Karim town. The service is being provided from 8amto 4 pm daily.
The Wasa MD said that Jica of Japan would also provide the equipment, worth 1,000 million to Wasa which included the disposal station pumps, sucker machines and excavators for de-silting and cleaning of sewer lines in Faisalabad.
Responding to a question, Zahid Aziz said that despite devastating load shedding in Faisalabad, the drinking water to citizens was being supplied for seven hours a day (i.e. two hours in morning, two hours in noon and three hours in the evening).
The MD further said that 120 employees of the Wasa who were assigned the duty for the bills distribution and collection of the outstandings from the consumers had been removed from the Revenue Department to their actual departments as they were not performing the field duty. Out of these, 39 employees are Sewer Men, 28 tube-well operators, 30 Baildars, Chaukidar and fitter Quli.
