LETTER: A letter to the Business Recorder Editor carried by the newspaper recently its writer had expressed some legitimate concerns if not apprehensions with regard to the political parities' approach to the historic over rupees one trillion Karachi transformation plan. That the federal and Sindh provincial governments are exchanging barbs is a highly unfortunate outcome of the two high-level meetings that prime minister Imran Khan chaired in Karachi on Friday with a view to transform this city of teeming millions into a modern city. The situation clearly indicates one thing: lack of political will or sincerity or both on the part of federal ministers as well. Had they been committed to the greater Karachi cause the people of Karachi must not have been witnessing this ongoing unfortunate situation. Both the parties need to fully appreciate the woeful condition of Karachi which has been badly battered by torrential rains. How unfortunate it is that the largest city of the country which contributes over 60 percent revenue to the national exchequer does not have even one metro or mass transit transport service although cities like Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi-Islamabad and Peshawar have this facility for commuters. The absence of mass transit plan in Karachi has led to creating, among other things, highly abnormal increases in the number of motorcyles, rickshaws, etc. It is about time both the governments stopped point-scoring and leveling allegations against each other in the greater interest of this city and its people.
