LAHROE: A mega corruption of Rs.51.4 million has been unearthed in the Punjab Workers Welfare Board (PWWB), an attached department of Labor and Human Resource Department here on Thursday. According to sources, Punjab Secretary Labour Amir jaan started an inquiry against the accused Shahzad Akhtar Baig, director finance and deputy director admin Tahir Masood.
After the initial inquiry case was handed over to Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). ACE team arrested all the accused officers and officials involved in the scam. Those who were booked include director finance Shahzad Akhtar Baig, deputy director admin Ejaz Ur Rehman, assistant computer programmer Tahir Masood and two junior clerks namely Jamshed and Saleem.
The accused have embezzled Rs51,403,000 in the name of fictitious and colleges with fake credentials and documents of the ghost students from the PWWB. The accused transferred Rs 32,978,400 to the Mid City College, Rs7,031,200 to Muslim Institute of Computer Science, Rs600,4000 to Hamza Poly Tech Institute, Rs 4,839,800 to the Grace College and Rs549,600 to CFE. All these institutions are ghost with fake students.
Meanwhile the Minister for Labour & HR Ansar Majeed Khan said the arrest of corrupt employees of Punjab Workers welfare Board is admirable act of the government institution as PTI led government will not tolerate corrupt elements in the Labour Department. The Department played major role in pointing out the corrupt elements.
He stated that Secretary Labour & HR Aamir Jan disclosed corruption of millions during inquiry in the Department. To ensure transparency in the Department the administrative matters are being computerized and computerization will help to stop the corruption as well as to expedite the working.
