Business Recorder analyst Asad Rizvi deserves a lot of praise for explaining to newspaper readers like myself Roshan Digital Account (RDA) launched by State Bank of Pakistan recently. In my view, however, it is certainly the outcome of the changes in the global financial environment and breakthrough caused by technological and telegraphic change in the banking industry. After all, digital identity system, according to the writer, is also part of FATF Methodology for assessing compliance and the effectiveness of AML/CFT systems. That SBP has already played a highly acclaimed role by warding off the prospects of massive layoffs on account of Coronavirus lockdown by ensuring payment of wage bills of workers through banks. SBP governor Dr Reza Baqir and his team members have acted in the most effective and meaningful manner through policy formulations to insulate a very large number of workers against the adverse economic impact of this deadly virus. Last but not least, the writer has raised a slew of questions about RDA that SBP needs to answer for the public at large.
