LAHORE: Kissan Ittehad North Punjab President Chaudhry Rauf Tatlah have urged the Government to fix prices of different crops well before the cultivation in consultation with the representatives of growers so as they could get fair and reasonable rates of their produce.
Ch. Rauf Tatlah was addressing a gathering after he was appointed President Kissan Ittehad North Punjab by the Central Chairman Kissan Ittehad Rao Tariq Ishfaq during a meeting of the central executive committee of the movement, said a spokesman of KI here on Friday. On this occasion, Central Chairman expressed his utmost faith in Rauf Tatlah that he will be voice of farmers from his region.
Ch. Rauf Tatlah thanked the association members for their trust and confidence in him and promised to perform this responsibility most efficiently. He said that 65% of our population is associated with agriculture and it is the need of the hour to divert the focus of higher and concerned authorities towards their issues and challenges, only this will be giving a ray of hope for a stable economy of Pakistan, he added.
After that, he visited his home town, where more than 2000 farmers welcomed him on Gojra bypass as a form of rally and appreciated his efforts. Rauf Tatlah also floated a four point charter of demand including that farmers must be paid the right and reasonable price of crops, Government should fix prices of wheat, rice, maze, potato and sugarcane well before the cultivation of these crops in consultation with Kissan Ittehad, extra charges/taxes should be written off from the electricity bills of tube wells and rate of electricity for agriculture should be fixed at Rs 4 per unit.
In addition to that, he emphasized on the economic well being of farmers that will eventually lead to prosperous Pakistan. He also demanded for the new and improvised agriculture policy as per the latest global trends.
