ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has become the top taxpayer parliamentarian in 2018 by paying Rs241.32 million in taxes. According to the Tax Directory 2018 released by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) here on Friday, which gives an insight into tax collection and taxes paid by individuals, the taxes paid by PML-N leader were twice higher than the entire cabinet of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The tax directory also stated the tax paid by various parliamentarians. The highest amount of tax was paid by former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi followed by the PTI MNA Mohammad Najeeb Haroon with Rs140 million, and Mumtaz Ali with Rs34.06 million in taxes.
According to the tax directory, Senator Talha Mehmood paid Rs29.2 million in taxes, Taj Mohammad Afridi paid Rs28.2 million, Sajid Turi paid Rs17 million, Senator Farogh Naseem paid Rs35 million, Omar Ayub paid Rs26.05 million, Shaukat Ali paid Rs14.6 million, Sheikh Fayyazud Din paid Rs13.8 million. Moreover, Akbar Askani paid Rs11.8 million, Amjad Mehmood Chaudhry paid Rs12.32 million, Chaudhry Arshid Javaid Warraich paid Rs11.11 million taxes, and Sheikh Allaudin Rs10.42 million in taxes.
