KARACHI: Building of a factory located near Siemens Chowrangi in Karachi's Sindh Industrial & Trading Estate (SITE) area collapsed on Monday, according to police officials. Several workers are feared trapped underneath the rubble. Rescue operation was ongoing and no causality was confirmed till filing of the report.
SITE police SHO Ayaz Khan said one man has been pulled out from the rubble and taken to the hospital. He added that there were fewer workers inside the factory at the time due to the prayer break.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said officials have asked the factory owners for a list of people who were working inside the factory when it collapsed. Taking notice of the incident, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed Karachi Commissioner Suhail Rajput to put the administration on alert. Efforts should be made to save the lives of laborers, he instructed.
