ISLAMABAD: The opposition parties Rehbar Committee Wednesday recommended Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s name to lead the recently announced Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
The Rehbar Committee meeting held here under the chairmanship of former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani to take up the prevailing political issues in the country has finally agreed on the name of Maulana Fazlur Rehman to lead the opposition front against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government.
The meeting decided to create three committees consisting of members of all the opposition parties to take up the matters regarding bringing no-confidence move against Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, jointly resigning from the parliament, and improving ties among all the parties.
After the meeting, the JUI-F senior leader and convener of the committee Akram Khan Durrani, while talking to media persons, said that the senior leadership of the recently established PDM would soon devise and announce the organizational structure of the movement. Durrani said that the recently held All Parties Conference (APC) of the political parties had reviewed the prevailing political situation in the country. He said that the PTI-led federal government after the successful conclusion of the APC was in a state of frustration, saying following the APC, groups of the PTI leaders including ministers and advisors are conducting back to back media talks just to save the “puppet government”.
Durrani who is also the Chairman Rehbar Committee of the opposition parties said that provincial and central leadership of the PDM would be announced in collaboration with the leadership, adding that opposition votes were 10 times more than the ruling elite. He said that the opposition alliance had decided to hold four political gatherings in the coming days in different cities.
Answering a question regarding the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s appearance before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which has summoned him to appear before the NAB Peshawar office, Durrani said that it would be decided by the JUI-F leadership. He further said that the NAB had underestimated the status of the JUI-F chief.
Answering another question, he said that the leadership of the opposition alliance would decide the future of the Rehbar Committee.
