NHA projects: authorities asked to complete maintenance work

Federal Minister for Communications Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil on Thursday issued directives to authorities for timely completion of maintenance work at all NHA projects to utilise for longer period.
He expresses these views while chairing a meeting regarding maintenance of different National Highways projects. Those, who attended the meeting includes the Federal Secretary Communications Anwar Ahmad Khan, Chairman NHA Syed Muhammad Ali Gardezi, members NHA and regional general managers.
The Federal Minister said the authority need more funds for sustainability of all maintenance projects.
He informed that the reconstruction of the Motorway on BOT basis is under consideration; however, he said they should keep functional by continuing maintenance work on it. For the purpose, he said that the authority needs adequate funds.
He also stressed the need for bringing improvement in the monitoring system to maintain the quality of the projects.
The Federal Minister called for curtailing the non-development expenditures which could able to allocate more funds for maintenance schemes. He expressed concern over the delaying in repair work on roads under the National Highway Improvement Program.
On the occasion, the Chairman NHA gave briefing about all NHA projects and a progress report also presented by Regional GMs of the respective regions. He explained the issues and obstacles before the timely completion of projects.
