Students returned to their schools on Monday as all primary and secondary schools across Sindh resumed classes.

Schools have reopened in Sindh despite Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho's warning against the opening of schools this month. Pechuho warned that the rate of positive coronavirus cases in the province has recently doubled, local media reported.

Last week, middle schools reopened in Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, Sindh had decided not to reopen after several students, teachers and other staff tested positive for the novel virus.

The provincial government also deferred reopening schools as many schools were violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) after which they were sealed.

Last week, Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani had announced the provincial government's decision to reopen both lower secondary and primary classes from September 28 (today).

Ghani directed all the schools and other educational institutions to educate the students about the SOPs on daily basis. He warned that strict action will be taken against the schools which are not following the guidelines.

So far, Sindh has reported 136,017 cases and 2,492 deaths from coronavirus.
