As Karachi sees an abrupt increase in the coronavirus cases this week, a mini-smart lockdown has been imposed in two areas of Manghopir.
A two-week lockdown has been imposed in the two areas in Manghopir- Saima Villas and Samama City, a notification released by the Deputy Commissioner Karachi West's office read. Both have a combined population of 4,000 people approximately.
According to the notification, the entrance of unnecessary persons is restricted, including the movement of all public transport. Only shops selling essential items and pharmacies are allowed to remain open during the lockdown.
Meanwhile, Karachi Commissioner Sohail Rajput has ordered action against restaurants and wedding halls violating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). While presiding over a meeting with the city administration and provincial health department, the commissioner has ordered to seal schools, restaurants and marriage halls violating SOPs.
On Wednesday, Karachi reported 221 cases out of a total of 311 in Sindh. In total, Karachi alone reported 4,667 positive cases in September.
