The leader of the opposition Congress party Rahul Gandhi was arrested on Thursday by the Uttar Pradesh police.
The leader and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were on their way to Hathras, where they intended to meet the family of the gang-rape victim who died on Tuesday. However, they were stopped by the police at Yamuna Expressway. The duo then set off on foot after which they were detained.
"I want to walk to Hathras alone. Please tell me under which section are you arresting me," Rahul can be seen asking in a video. The police cited the imposition of Section 144. The section prohibits the assembly of four or more people.
Rahul alleged that he was pushed to the ground and struck with a lathi by the police.
