LAHORE: Complying with the orders of the Cane Commissioner Punjab office, Al-Arabia Sugar Mills Limited, reportedly owned by Salman Shahbaz, has paid arrears of over Rs 261 million to the cane growers.
The Mill has also deposited unclaimed Rs 9.4 million in the bank and informed the office of the Cane Commissioner Punjab about clearing the arrears through a letter recently.
In a letter to the Cane Commissioner, the Assistant General Manager of the mill said that pursuant to the order (C.C.B&F (9)-02/2014, dated December 7, 2016), Al-Arabia Sugar Mills Limited was to progressively pay Rs 261,574,000 to cane growers against outstanding dues payable by Abdullah Sugar Mills Limited.
It further said that up till now Rs 252,086,477 had been paid to the rightful claimants whereas an amount of Rs 9,487,523 remained unclaimed. However, the Company as a gesture of goodwill and to show bona fide intention has deposited the unclaimed amount in MCB Bank Limited Shahpur," the letter added.
Confirming receipt of the letter from Al Arabia Sugar Mills, Cane Commissioner Punjab Zaman Wattoo said that growers with claim should contact his office for the payment.
