KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani on Friday directed Concerned officials to expedite uplift works at Karachi Zoo under Annual Development Program so that the animals could be given more natural environment and people be provided better facilities.

While visiting Karachi Zoo, Shallwani directed that the animals' cages should also be renovated. He also visited the historic Mughal Garden and said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's events should be held here as it would increase importance of the place.

"Zoo is the most interesting place for children who come here with their parents and get knowledge about animals. The zoo is the source of increasing awareness about wildlife," he added and said that it was necessary to provide natural environment to animals as much as possible.

The Administrator said that measures should be taken for recognition of Karachi Zoo at international level. More animals would be brought to Karachi Zoo, he said.

On the occasions, Director Karachi Zoo Khalid Hashmi informed Shallwani that a large number of people visit Karachi Zoo and Wednesday is fixed for women and children only.
