Prices of daily use kitchen items soar up

PESHAWAR: Prices of daily use kitchen items, including live chicken/meat, eggs, vegetable, flour, sugar, fruits, pulses and others have risen sharply in the retail market, according to a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday.

The survey noticed the prices of live chicken had increased at Rs176 per kg against the price of Rs161 per kg in the previous. It added the price of farm eggs has sharply surged up as available at Rs170-180 per dozen against the price of Rs110 per kg in the preceding week. Cow meat is being sold at Rs450-500 and Rs550 per kg, while mutton beef was available at Rs1100-1200 per kg, the survey revealed.

Upward trend in prices of pulses/food grains was witnessed in previous week as compared to preceding week. For instance, good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs150 per kg, which was selling at Rs140 per kg in the previous week. One kilogramme rice toota was available at Rs70-80 per kg in the retail market.

Dal mash was available at Rs270 per kg, dhoti dal at Rs220 per kg, red bean (khara) at Rs220 per kg, moong at Rs200 per kg, white lobiya at Rs180 per kg, dal masoor at Rs160 per, dal chilka green at Rs160 per kg, dal chilka black at Rs180 per kg, big size white chana at Rs160 per kg, small-size white chana at Rs140 per kg, dal chana at Rs180 per kg, according to the survey.

An increase from Rs10-20 per kg/litre was witnessed in prices of all brand and quality cooking oil and ghee in the local market, the survey revealed.

Sugar is being sold at Rs100-105 /- and Rs110 per kg in the retail market, whereas a 20 kg flour bag was available at Rs1200-1300 /- while 80 kg flour bag at Rs6,800, maida (fine flour) at Rs70-80 per kg in the open market, according the survey.

A manifold increase in vegetable prices was also witnessed in the retail market. According to the survey, ginger is being sold at Rs600-650 per kg, garlic at Rs220-250 per kg Tomatoes are being sold at Rs100-110 per kg and onion at Rs70-80 per kg.

Cucumber was available at Rs70 per kg, green chilli at Rs160 per kg, lemon at Rs120 per kg. Red coloured potato is being sold at Rs100-110 per kg while others available at Rs70-80 per kg in the local market.

Peas are being sold at Rs250 per kg, bitter gourds at Rs120 per kg, arvi at Rs100 per kg, cauliflower at Rs100 per kg, cabbage at Rs80 per kg, apple, long and round gourds are being sold within a range of Rs80-90 and Rs100 per kg, bringle at Rs80 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs80-100 per kg.

Fresh milk is being sold at Rs140 per litre. Prices of fruits are also sky-high in the local market. Grapes are being sold at Rs200 per kg, pomegranate at Rs160-180 per kg, meethay (citrus bergamot) at Rs150 per kg, guava at Rs100-120 per kg, bananas are being sold at Rs70-80 and Rs100 per dozen.
