Over three dozens accused nabbed, claims police

Sindh police on Saturday claimed to have apprehended over three dozens felons including six extortionists, two dacoits and four Lyari gangsters and recovered huge cache of weapons in separate raids at various parts of the metropolis.
According to SHO Napier Imdad Khwaja, six alleged extortionists were nabbed when they came at Timber Market to collect ransom from the shopkeepers. He said that accused persons were identified as Saeedullah, Jameel Khan, Ali Muhamamd, Azmat, Sir Taj and Naseeb Khan.
He said although the detained persons had no political or religious affiliations, they mostly used the name of different political and religious parties to collect extortions. Further investigation was underway.
Similarly, Anti Extremist Cell (AEC) of CID of the Crime Investigation Department also claimed to have nabbed four alleged Lyari gangsters in two separate raids at Maripur Truck Stand and Ghani roundabout and recovered weapons from them.
Official sources said four alleged Lyari gangsters namely Rashid, Nawaz Kausar, Jamsheed Sonara and Ghafar Memon were arrested on a tip-off in two separate raids Maripur Truck Stand and Ghani roundabout. They said the accused persons, who belonged to one of the Lyari gangsters groups, were involved in several heinous crimes including kidnapping, police encounters, murders and extortions. Further investigation was underway.
Two alleged dacoits, who were said to be Baloch, were taken into custody in injured condition after brief encounter took place near Siemens roundabout. Police said these alleged bandits, who were identified as Adul Qayum, 30, son of Jamaluddin and Asif, 25, son of Abdul Rasheed, were intercepted by police patrolling party when they were busy in looting valuables from Rizwan, 30, son of Abdul Ghafoor.
Police said that accused persons instead of surrendering themselves on police warning sprayed the law enforcers with bullets to get escaped under the cover of heavy gunshots. During police retaliation, both dacoits sustained bullet wounds and fell down on ground. Later, they were arrested with weapons and snatched bike. No case was registered till filing of this report.
Meanwhile, Korangi Industrial Area Police Station claimed to have recovered huge cache of weapons including one Kalashnikov, one Repeater, one Maouzer, four pistols, some 908 bottles of local liquor and two kilogram of hashish from a house located in 8-B Muhammad Ali Goth, Korangi. Police said although the culprits managed to flee during raid, they had nominated Qadir, Miskeena, Shakeel alias Shaka and four others in eight different cases. Raids are being carried out to nab those nominated persons, they maintained.
Ferozabad police station had claimed to have taken some 30 persons into custody from Tipu Sultan Road. Police said that two armed groups had scuffled each other to get the possession of a plot (23-C) located at Tipu Sultan Road. On being informed after heavy gunshots between these two groups, the police rushed to the spot and after brief encounter, they detained some 30 persons belonging to both groups from the crime scene. No case was registered till filing of this report. SHO Ferozabad said it is premature to say the detained persons belonged to land mafia, saying that investigation was underway to ascertain the fact behind the incident.
