ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday welcomed the humanitarian truce agreed between Azerbaijan and Armenia on 18 October to prevent a further humanitarian crisis.

Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a "humanitarian ceasefire" in the conflict over the contested enclave of Nagorno Karabakh on Sunday - a week after truce brokered by Russia fell apart, according to a statement from the foreign ministries of both countries.

In a statement issued here, the Foreign Office said "this is s a positive development for peace and stability. We hope that the humanitarian conditions agreed upon by the parties would be honoured completely".

The Foreign Office spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said that Pakistan believes that sustainable peace between the two parties would depend on the complete and comprehensive implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions and withdrawal of Armenian forces from Azerbaijani territories.

He said that Pakistan stands with the brotherly nation of Azerbaijan in its quest to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh issue in line with the several resolutions of the United Nations Security Council."
