Legendary India’s World Cup 1983 winning captain, Kapil Dev underwent an emergency angioplasty at a hospital in New Delhi after suffering a heart attack, local media reported on Friday.

The 61-year-old former all-rounder is currently being under observation in ICU and under the close supervision of Dr. Atul Mathur and his team, said a statement released by Fortis Escorts Hospital.

Former all-rounder is understood to be stable and at the hospital in Delhi.

The former cricket arrived at the hospital around 1:00 am (IST) on 23rd October with a complaint of chest pain. He was evaluated and an emergency coronary Angioplasty was performed by Dr. Atul Mathur, Director of Cardiology Department, in the middle of the nigh.

Kapil represented India in 131 Tests and 225 ODIs before retiring. He is the only player in history of red-ball cricket to claim over 400 wicket and scored more than 5000 runs.

After the news of his illness came in, the cricket world wished him speedy recovery.
