Imran Khan needs an NRO, says Maryam

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz vice-president Maryam Nawaz said on Saturday there was a rule of law in the UK, and Prime Minister Imran Khan's statement on bringing back Nawaz Sharif was nothing but his wishful thinking.

She said this while responding to a media query about the PM's statement that he would get Nawaz deported from the UK even if he had to talk to Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Maryam said that there was a rule of law in the UK where there were no judges like Arshad Malik.

"You (Imran) first faced a humiliation in the country and may go to the UK to face a similar situation," she said.

Criticizing Prime Minister Imran Khan, Maryam said, "A person of smaller stature has to cite names of people of high stature to increase his stature."

How could one trust a person who did not understand how to remain dignified under pressure, she asked.

Maryam said that the influence of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had spread across the country.

"Imran Khan needs a NRO now, not we. The arrest of Captain (Retd.) Safdar is an embarrassment to the federal government," she added. She said she believed the PTI government was panicking and might quit before January. "The government is scared of Nawaz even though he is not in the country," she said.

She said there was no need for an inquiry into the "Karachi incident", and what happened was crystal clear. However, she said the Sindh government had the right to inquire into Safdar's arrest. Maryam said the focus of the government was only on the Opposition while inflation had been rising and there was a shortage of basic food items.

She said Nawaz Sharif would address the PDM rally in Quetta via a video link on Sunday. Maryam deplored the alleged incident of a TV reporter Ali Imran Syed's having gone missing.
